South American Cichlid, the name derives from his somewhat pugnatious territorial behavior

Notice the way his color changes between pictures
Thumbnail for /gallery/fishcam/fish30_l.jpg
Sometimes he's just got a black spot, and other times very defined bands

It's not the lighting...Many cichlids exhibit the ability to change color and pattern, to a limited degree

In this picture you can also see one of my albino corydoras catfish (now deceased)

Here my pair of Melanochromis Chipokae are crossing paths

They are African Cichilids, from Lake Malawi

The male (staring into the camera) is predominately blue, the female yellow

They don't have a common (non-scientific) name...I'm not sure why [5/ 5, 1 vote]

They tend to hang around together a lot [3/ 5, 1 vote]

And, like most cichlids, can get territorial and aggressive
Thumbnail for /gallery/fishcam/fish11_l.jpg
The female is slightly smaller than the male [5/ 5, 3 votes] [2 comments]
