Big Basin
These photos are from a quick day-trip to Big Basin Redwoods State Park in October 2000, with Julia and Shari. A very nice park, the highlights of which, of course, are the massive redwood trees. It's difficult to capture the majesty of these trees with any camera, but even harder without a decent wide-angle lens or proper preparation and setup. Oh well...if you don't like 'em, don't look at 'em. :-)
Looking down into the park from a scenic overlook.

Another angle.

Julia and Shari at the entrance to one of the trails. Note the nice moss-covered branches overhanging the scene.

Looking up one of the tall, straight trunks.
That's the "mother of the forest", the tallest tree in the park, at 329 ft high.
Another shot looking straight up from between several redwoods.
Julia and I, inside one of the hollowed out trunks.

Shari, attempting to evade the camera.
Mmmmmmm....tree.
More trees.
Julia, looking up at the sky through an entirely hollow tree trunk.
As night falls, and we are far from civilization on one of the trails, I take this picture in case we are never seen again.
